We’re All Mad Here: Finding the right tea party

ByPam

For me, blogging is like being in Wonderland.  As in Alice in Wonderland.  There are many strange paths to take, interesting people to meet, and odd experiences to try in Blogland. When looking for answers to crucial blogging questions, I suggest one always refer to Alice in Wonderland; there’s an answer for every question.

For example, you’re a new blogger and don’t know where to start.  You ask the question: Where do I  begin?

Answer: Begin at the beginning and go on till you come to the end; then stop.

Right.  That’s good advice.  Just start blogging.  Begin at the beginning.  When you’re done telling your story, stop.

Next question: What do I write about?

Answer: If you don’t know where you are going, any road will get you there.

Right.  If you don’t know what you want to write about, why did you start blogging?  You need to have some idea of what you want to get out of blogging.  Start there.

Question: Does my writing (art, photography, etc) make sense to anyone other than me?

Answer: “If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn’t. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn’t be. And what it wouldn’t be, it would. You see?

So…It’s your world; you decide what makes sense to you.

Question: Ok, so I’ve started my blog and I have some content. How do I get people to read it?

Answer: How doth the little crocodile
Improve his shining tail,
And pour the waters of the Nile
On every golden scale!

How cheerfully he seems to grin,
How neatly he spreads his claws,
And welcomes little fishes in,
With gently smiling jaws!”

So…find some little fishes to be your friends.  Read their blogs. Make friends. Attend tea parties hosted by mad (crazy) people.

Question: Why do I have to be around crazy people in order to blog?

Answer: Oh, you can’t help that,” said the Cat: “we’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad.”

How do you know I’m mad?” said Alice.

You must be,” said the Cat, “or you wouldn’t have come here.”

Right. Secret: Everyone who blogs? Mad about it.  Otherwise they wouldn’t do it.  It’s their madness that makes them special and unique and FUN! You just have to find the right tea party.

Question: How DO I find the right tea party?

Answer: “Take some more tea,” the March Hare said to Alice, very earnestly.
“I’ve had nothing yet,” Alice replied in an offended tone, “so I can’t take more.”
“You mean you can’t take less,” said the Hatter: “it’s very easy to take more than nothing.”
“Nobody asked your opinion,” said Alice.”

So.  Attend lots and lots of tea parties.  Try the tea. Then try some more.  Or taste a different tea.  Don’t sit alone with your blog waiting for The Queen of Hearts to find your blog; cuz she won’t.  She’s very busy chopping off people’s heads.  Plus, as a friend, The QOH won’t have much time for you.  Try visiting blogs that are like how you’d like to be or look like someone you could be friends with. You can always have more friends but you can’t make less friends.

Get out there and have fun; it’s always tea time, you just have to find the right tea party!

“Yes, that’s it! Said the Hatter with a sigh, it’s always tea time.”

So.  Go out into Blogland.  Try new things, meet new people.

“Come back!” the Caterpillar called after her. “I’ve something important to say.”
This sounded promising, certainly. Alice turned and came back again.
“Keep your temper,” said the Caterpillar.

Ah yes.  Keep your temper.  Good advice, Caterpillar.

What advice do you have to add?
