Author Erin Flynn Jay – interview and G!@w@y

ByPam

Friends, remember a little while back when reviewed the very helpful tome called Mastering the Mommy Track?

Well Erin Flynn Jay is back to treat us to some more goodness: an interview!

So, let’s get started!

UNCONVENTIONAL LIBRARIAN:  Do you drink coffee?

ERIN FLYNN JAY: Yes, I drink several cups a day. Coffee is a necessity in the morning. I’m an early riser and need coffee.

UL: Do you like donuts or cookies?

EFL: I like both, but I usually don’t like to have sweets in the house. The girls go crazy over sugar so I try to keep these purchases to a minimum.

UL: Good idea about the sweets. How did mommy track get started?

EFL: When I started writing this book, my daughters were ages three and one–challenging ages to say the least. I set out to talk to other moms who were struggling with the work-life balance as well as national experts who could offer solutions. The Great Recession saw women working harder than ever before to support their families, many being the sole breadwinner while Dad stayed at home, caring for young kids. Many women also experienced burnout and depression, putting their children and spouse’s needs above their own.

UL: Yes that burnout feels like a pandemic.  Have you ever written a book before? Will you write another one?

EFL: This is the first one. I would love to write another one; I have a topic in mind that is not parenting related. I need to see how this first one fares. I am excited to promote this book as I have spent over ten years promoting author clients.

UL:  If you could have any superpower what would it be?

EFL: It would be the power to heal the sick from cancer and other diseases.

UL:  YES (high five!) I love that power!  What makes you happy?

EFL: Spending time with my family–and friends. We enjoy Long Beach Island during the summer. I steal away with the girls and work from the laptop there when I can. It’s always a treat to return to Manhattan to see friends or attend conferences–I try to get back there twice a year.

UL: It’s nice to visit you’re old home, isn’t it?  Anything else you wanna tell us?

EFL: I hope career moms across the US and UK will read Mastering the Mommy Track and take away insight that will help them improve all aspects of their lives–both personal and work related. It is a juggling act to balance home and work duties, and for a lot of women in 2012, it’s a walk on a tightrope–a fear their families will never experience the rewards (vacation, travel, time off) they so rightfully deserve.

Right.  You heard it: Mommies deserve to have some rewards! So, as a reward to YOU, we’re giving away a copy of Mastering the Mommy Track with EASY PEASY LEMON SQUEEZY entries!

Here’s all ya hafta do:
