Well it’s Monday and I’m still working through my TBR pile! This past weekend, Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer had a read a thon but i just couldnt hang with it. I guess my eyes are bigger than my stomach, as my mum used to say.
Anyway, I’ve just finished reading Son by Lois Lowry, and can I tell you I LOVED IT!!!!
In case you don’t know, Son is the last in The Giver quartet: The Giver, Gathering Blue, Messenger, and Son. I’ve had this copy since last summer at BEA and I couldn’t wait to get to it and thought for sure I’d find time to read the first three books. Fast forward to now. I picked up the book and thought I’d struggle with following the story, you know how a series can be!
Not to be a spoiler, but here’s the basic premise: there’s this utopian (secretly dystopian) society, that is alarmingly similar to Handmaid’s Tale, but for children (think MG and older) in which everyone has a certain job to do and no one complains about how monotonous their lives are. We meet a new heroine, Claire, who somehow escapes this utopia and falls into another world, reuniting characters from previous books. Claire goes on a journey to find the answers to some questions. Vague, I know, but I don’t wanna spoil it!
Run to your nearest bookstore or library and read this book TODAY.
So, I’m gonna keep on keeping on with Kimba and the Challenge.
Let me see what I’m going to read next. Two down!
Woot!!
