I’m so excited to bring you a diverse book for the littles! In honor of Multicultural Children’s Day, Lil Libros has sent me two ADORBS books to review! The two books I’d like to share with you are
Counting with – contando con Frida
and
Lucha Libre Anatomy-Anatomia
These little books for little hands are perfect for little ones to read alone or with a grown up. In Counting with Frida, little ones will learn to count to ten with common objects they see every day. The extra great bit about this book is that the illustrations contain images that Spanish speaking little ones might recognize: faces that look like themselves or clothing that might resemble something they have seen. A very tiny Frida even makes an appearance in the book!
Lucha Libre helps little ones identify their body parts by way of freestyle wrestling. The little lucha libre masks are so adorable and will inspire even the grumpiest reader to smile. I lived in Texas for 10 years and reading these books brought back all my forgotten Spanish just like, uno, dos, tres!
There are so many fun ways to incorporate these books into learning activities with your little ones. You could:
- Read the book in Spanish and have the child call out the English word
- Read the book in English and have the child call out the Spanish word
- Helping older children identify body parts by drawing them on a face, like this (click link)
- Count the objects you see in Spanish
- Count the number of steps you take in Spanish
- Watch a Spanish kids video to further reinforce the fun of Spanish. Here’s one that I like. It’s called El Poliito Pio
El Pollito Pio has everything little kids love in a song: catchy tune, repetitive vocabulary, farms, adorable animals, and a funny ending!
