Code Switching and The Hate U Give: A Discussion

Do you know what code switching is? The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas provides a realistic depiction of it in the African American community.  I was intrigued by it and thought I’d have a go at sharing my thoughts out about them both.

As a person of color have you engaged in code switching? Tell me how in the comments. I’d love to hear from you.

My passion is advocating for diversity in children's and YA literature.

As a white person who has lived abroad and knows how exhausting it is to try to operate in two languages, I have all the respect in the world for people who code switch all the time.
The Hate U Give is on my want-to-read list, though I have American Street up before it.
