The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew by CS Lewis

ByPam

I remember why I stopped reading these as a child. They are pedantic which can sometimes be annoying. I wish this title came first as it would be a great set up to Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe rather than an oddly placed prequel.

Isn’t this cover delightful? It’s got an art deco feel that I love more than the other classic style covers. Don’t know what this story is about?  Here’s a blurb:

The many readers who discovered C.S. Lewis’s Chronicles through ‘The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe’ will be delighted to find that the next volume in the series is actually the first in the sequence—and a step back in time. In this unforgettable story, British schoolchildren Polly and Digory inadvertently tumble into the Wood Between the Worlds, where they meet the evil Queen Jadis and, ultimately, the great, mysterious King Aslan. We witness the birth of Narnia and discover the legendary source of all the adventures that are to follow in the seven books that comprise the series.

My fave line from the whole book is “My doom has come upon me” as said by the witch. Regardless of its quirks, I’m still having all the good, comforting feels.
