Book Review: The Hunger Games *NO SPOILERS*

ByPam

unconventional librarianA while back, you may remember Bailey asking for suggestions on what to read next.  He and I decided to start the Hunger Games trilogy.

Unless you’ve lived under a rock, you’ve seen a tweet or a Facebook post or a Youtube video or have seen a kid running around with one of the books tucked under her arm.  Or maybe you’ve seen me pulling it out of my purse. The new “it” book series to read? The Hunger Games.  To be sure, I love sharing books with my kids and this series so far has not disappointed me.

I will not spoil the book or series in any way for those of you who are late jumping into the Game, cuz I know I hate that.

But here’s my two cents.  The Hunger Games is a good read. No, in fact, it’s a GREAT read. Here’s why:

  • the main character is a young teen girl, could be of any race or ethnicity
  • there is NO sex, only a very few minor kissing incidents
  • the violence, while there, is not really gratuitous, but drives the energy of the story and the characters (most) show remorse about it
  • there are absolutely ZERO curse words

Now what’s not to love about that?  So…get you a copy of the book and get in on the GIRL POWER!

p.s. alot of people have been asking what your weapon of choice would be. mine? hiding. what’s yours?
