Black History Month and Diversity

ByPam

I thought that in honor of Black History Month I would highlight not only books about the African American experience, but books that contain diverse experiences: different colors, ethnicities, lifestyle choices, etc.

Today’s book is
Barack Obama: Son of Promise, Child of Hope

Barack Obama: Son of Promise, Child of Hope by Nikki Grimes

The book is written by the fabulous Nikki Grimes and beautifully illustrated by Bryan Collier.

The text is easy to read and also includes brief snippets of a conversation with a mother and son as she reads the book to him.

and just look at the emotion captured as Barack (aka Barry) contemplates his father’s death.

Regardless of your political beliefs, I feel it is important

to celebrate that we’ve had our first Black president, something

our ancestors never thought possible.

There is also a very cute glimpse of the Obama children!

I give this book 3 paws!
