  1. So pretty!!!

I love butterflies because though they are small, their entire wingspan is made from scales that are pigment-less (only viewable before of the reflected light as our own eyes see it) they never give up. Despite all of the things (the very wind!) working against them, they live on, as one of the most beautiful creatures on this Earth, with more … *drumroll* DIVERSITY than any other animal group on this planet! 🙂

  2. Butterflies… are multicolored creatures that seem to have the freedom to be and like a mosquito.. we don’t try to kill it… we are taken back it’s beauty… book art above is very cool.

  3. We are planting milkweed in E. Texas to give monarchs more food sources. It’s finally springtime when I can see butterflies!!

  4. I’m Canadian. But my daughter loves butterflies. Will have to look this book up!

  5. I love butterflys for many different reasons, but my most recent reason is the joy they bring to my 2 year old. To watch his face when he sees one is enough reason for me to love every single butterfly out there.

  6. I don’t see as many butterflies in the Pacific Northwest as I did when I lived in Texas and grew milkweek for Monarchs. Still, they always bring a smile to my face and remind me to take life more lightly.

  7. That’s such a breathtaking cover! It looks like paper dolls against the background.

I love butterflies because of how they symbolize Hope. When Prometheus was chained to the rock, being attacked by all sorts of wild creatures, a little butterfly from Pandora’s box came to rest on his shoulder and gave him hope in spite of everything.

  8. I love butterflies because I have always imagined stories would look like them if they were visible. 🙂

  9. I love butterflies because they remind us that life and beauty are fleeting. “Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.” Proverbs 31:30

  10. I love butterflies because they’re beautiful, of course! But also for their caterpillar beginnings and their ability to pollinate! Gorgeous book! I’d love to have one!

  11. Hello Pam, I live in the UK so can’t enter your draw, but what a beautiful book! A pleasure to own, I expect. I also love little ones, and animals, and write poetry for children, mainly. Also adults, sometimes. My A-Z is ‘Amazing Animals’. Nice to meet you! http://www.lizbrownleepoet.com

  12. The illustration on that book is wonderful.
Butterflies are incredible creatures. Unfortunately they’re in massive decline. I do my best to plant flowers they can feed from.(From UK so don’t qualify for giveaway.)

  13. Oh, that art is gorgeous!

I love butterflies because they’re a symbol of lovely, thoughtless freedom. Also because of The Last Unicorn.

  14. Hi Pam,
Glad I found your blog as I am always looking for good children’s literature. But the butterflies on today’s cover made me shiver. you can read about my lepidopterophobia and the blue butterflies of the Amazon in My Amazon River blog somewhere around the letter L

  15. Butterflies are hardworking and whimsical characters of the Earth that bring delight and love to anyone who takes the time to say hello to them, whether mentally or outloud.

  16. Gorgy is RIGHT! That is beauty. I want to win, but for my cousin’s little girl. She is a smart little 9 year old who loves bugs! And I try to get her as many books as I can, because her parents don’t have a lot of money for books. She would LOVE this! My darling, I am so looking forward to all your posts!!

  17. I’m ever on the lookout for butterflies. I even visit the groves where they spend the winter. I’ve planted a butterfly garden and hope for winged visitors soon (or the caterpillars). I have a collection of butterfly books so if I don’t win this gorgeous one I’m going to buy a copy to add to my collection.

  18. I love butterflies because they are make all the difference to the life cycle of many trees as they flit about from flower to flower looking for nectar.
