I’ve been job interviewing lately which makes me think a lot about young children. Today I’m thinking about young children and music. I think young children and music are a great combination, cuz I have yet to meet a youngster who does not like to sing! And the greatest thing about kiddies and singing is that they all think they’re great singers! So, in that vein I am posting some of my favorite children’s sing a longs and finger plays.
Apple tree
Way up high in the apple tree (put hands up)
Two red apples smiled at me (form circles)
I shook that tree as hard as I could (shake tree)
Down came the apples MMMMMM good! (rub stomach)
Two little blackbirds
Two little blackbirds (hands on shoulders, fingers point up)
Sitting on a hill
One named Jack (bring one hand out in front or wiggle)
One named Jill (bring other hand out in front or wiggle)
Fly away Jack, fly away Jill (fly each hand behind back)
Come back Jack, Come back Jill (fly each hand to front)
Open Shut Them
Open them shut them (open hands)
Open them shut them (close hands)
Give a great big clap
Open them shut them
Open them shut them
Lay them in your lap
TEDDY BEAR, TEDDY BEAR – suit actions to words
Teddy-bear, teddy bear, turn around.
Teddy bear, teddy bear, touch the ground;
Teddy bear, teddy bear, show your shoe
Teddy bear teddy bear, that will do.
(Or, how old are you?)
Teddy bear, teddy bear, go upstairs;
Teddy bear, teddy bear, say your prayers;
Teddy bear, teddy bear, turn out the light,
Teddy bear, teddy bear say, “Goodnight!”
