#AtoZChallenge Let the Wild Rumpus Start! Letter A

It’s here! it’s here! The blogging  from A to Z April Challenge is HERE!!! As with most challenges, we’ll begin at the beginning:

My theme for the Challenge is to young adult books (YA).  There may be some you know and some you don’t know; hopefully, we’ll both find new books to add to our To Be Read piles!

Today is the first day of the challenge so of course the letter is A!  Today’s book is Aces Up by Lauren Barnholdt

Unconventional librarian Aces Up

How cute is that cover?  Here’s what goodreads says about it:

Seventeen-year-old high school senior Shannon Card needs money. And lots of it. She’s been admitted to Wellesley, but her dad just lost his job, and somehow she has to come up with a year of tuition herself. But Shannon’s dream of making big bucks waitressing at the local casino, the Collosio, disappears faster than a gambler’s lucky streak. Her boss is a tyrant, her coworker is nuts, and her chances of balancing a tray full of drinks while wearing high-heeled shoes are slim to none. Worse, time is running out, and Shannon hasn’t made even half the money she’d hoped.

When Shannon receives a mysterious invitation to join Aces Up, a secret network of highly talented college poker players, at first she thinks No way. She has enough to worry about: keeping her job, winning the coveted math scholarship at school, and tutoring her secret crush, Max. But when Shannon musters up the nerve to kiss Max and he doesn’t react at all, the allure of Aces Up and its sexy eighteen-year-old leader, Cole, is suddenly too powerful to ignore.

Soon Shannon’s caught up in a web of lies and deceit that makes worrying about tuition money or a high school crush seem like kid stuff. Still, when the money’s this good, is the fear of getting caught reason enough to fold?

Sounds cute, right?  I love the idea of a teenage girl playing poker!

Have you read it?  What did you think?

Special thanks to Arlee Bird for getting the party started!

Stay tuned for letter B; any ideas what the book might be?

I think that cover is SO cute! I think book covers are just as important as the book content. I’m looking forward to seeing the rest of the books you post this month.

OOoooo I love YA–it’s my favorite. I haven’t read Aces Up, but I will definitely check it out. It sounds like a fun read 🙂

I’ve got a 17 year old in his first year of college, and the money thing’s so intense for us, I feel myself thinking this’ll be a pretty intense story, too. But maybe I’m just projecting. 🙂

Great theme idea. My daughter comes home with the best books! When I was a kid we had Judy Blume and Nancy Drew, LOL.

Nice post! I remember books like that, they are still fun to read even not as a teenager!

Check out my A to Z challenge posts and good luck!

Fun! As a book lover, I love this idea! My hubby is a middle grade novelist and also enjoys reading YA. Stopping by from the A to Z challenge.

Great blog.. I’m a bit old for y/a books but if I was a young one this would be my cup of tea. Great start to the A2Z
