“Once in every generation, there is a landmark book that adds a new richness to all our lives…” This statement is from the front flap of Alex Haley’s Queen, the follow up to his highly acclaimed book Roots. Lois Leveen’s The Secrets of Mary Bowser moves me in a very similar way to Roots and Queen.
Please watch my video review.
This book is a must read for EVERYONE! I give it four paws.

Thanks for the book suggestion! I’m adding it to my list and I love your video review.
Thanks Rachee. AND best of all, it’s already in paperback so it’s perfect for book clubs!!
Ok. I now really want to read this. I live in Virginia, plus with my history education background… Gah. I must find it. Thank you for introducing me to another great book.
Lindsay the parts of Virginia really make me want to go there and visit. I know Richmond is a real place but it’d be interesting to see what happende to the other places, like the homes.
Looks like a great book.
Sounds like a great book for those who like historical fiction!
Thanks for the review of an interesting book. I now want to read the book. It will be nice to read about a woman who was a superhero back before it was cool to be a superhero.
i can’t wait for you to read it!
Thanks for the heads up on this one!
