and the #1 most challenged book of 2014-2015:
The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie
This book was challenged for being:
anti-family, cultural insensitivity, drugs/alcohol/smoking, gambling, offensive language, sex education, sexually explicit, unsuited for age group, violence. Additional reasons: “depictions of bullying”
Can you believe it? The whole reason the book is so remarkable is that it lets the reader see into the life of our hero and that’s what’s getting challenged! (smacking head) Here’s my review. I’m so GRATEFUL for Alexie’s window
into life on a reservation.
Have you read this book? Thoughts?
And that’s it, friends! What do you think about last year’s banned books? Any surprises?
